Learning an instrument is creative, enjoyable, expressive, fulfilling and open to everyone, no matter what age you begin! Playing an instrument can lead to a lifelong passion for music, open doors to exciting hobbies and interests and "trains your brain" to help with memory and learning other skills too! Put simply - I've never met anyone who regretted learning an instrument (but I've met many that regretted giving up!)
Dan is a qualified teacher (PGCE) and secondary Head of Music with extensive experience working with young people. He also teaches younger students (from around 4) and adults just starting out. Dan's philosphy is to listen to the student and find out what excites them about learning an instrument, then to tailor their learning to their individual needs and interests. This may involve reading music, graded exams and performing, but also may involve none of these, instead focussed around learning to play favourite pop songs using chords. Dan aims to keep lessons fun, engaging and purposeful for all students, regardless of previous experience or individual goals.
As well as instrumental lessons, Dan has many years of experience preparing students for Music GCSE and A level courses, and can offer tuition in music theory, set work study for listening exams and support for composition work. He has also studied and taught Music Technology and can offer tuition in tech based composition and sound engineering.
Lessons take place at Dan's house in Knowle (near Redcatch Park).
Fees: £25 for 30 minute lesson, £45 for 60 minute lesson. Discounts are available for block booking a group of lessons in advance. Students can also be taught in small groups if required.
